Some common terms about water treatment
Some common terms about water treatment : 1. Conductance: The number of ions that can move between two poles of one square centimeter and one centimeter apart, called the electrical conductivity, in units of: s/cm.
2. Resistance: The reciprocal of the conductance in MΩ?cm.
3. Hardness: refers to the content of calcium and magnesium ions in the water source, usually expressed in number of grains per gallon (gpg).
4. pH: The relative amount of acid and base in the solution. The pH is a measure of the negative logarithm (log) of the hydrogen ion concentration in the water. The pH value is 0-14, the pH is 7.0 and the water is neutral; when the pH is less than 7.0, the water is acidic; the pH is greater than 7.0. Then the water is alkaline.
5. Total solids (TS): refers to the sum of total dissolved solids (TDS) and total suspended solids (TSS).
7. Total Organic Carbon (TOC): Total Organic Carbon (TOC) is a measure of organic matter contamination in water in mg/l. TOC is a direct measure of the oxidizable organic matter.
8. Activated carbon: Granular activated carbon used to remove odor, odor, chlorine, chloramine and some organic matter from water.
9. NTU: turbidity turbidity unit—Use a beam of light to pass through the sample water and measure the turbidity of the low turbid water with a turbidity meter.
10. Penetration: Water passes through the semi-permeable membrane and flows naturally from the side of the low concentration solution to the side of the high concentration solution until the energy reaches equilibrium.
11. SDI: Sand Density Index - used to measure the number of suspended bodies in raw water used in reverse osmosis systems.
12. Resin: A specially made polymer pellet used in an ion exchange system to remove dissolved salts from aqueous solutions.
13. LSI: Langelier Saturation Index—A calculation formula that uses the formula to predict calcium carbonate precipitation under specified conditions, temperature, pH, TDS, hardness, and alkalinity.
14. Endotoxin: A heat-resistant pyrogen, especially a fatty polysaccharide found in the cell wall of living or inanimate bacteria.
15. Ozone: An unstable, highly active form of oxygen produced by natural or high-pressure electric charges through the air. It is an excellent oxidant and disinfectant.
