Red fertilization is also called water fertilization. It is a kind of top dressing method, that is, the method of fertilizing solid fast-acting fertilizer in water and using water as fertilizer. Fertilizer application usually uses water-soluble fertilizers, mainly nitrogen fertilizer and potash fertilizer. Nitrogen and potassium fertilizers have strong water solubility. Through the combination of fertilizer and water, soluble nitrogen and potassium penetrate into the soil and are absorbed by the crop roots.

Red fertilization is widely used in greenhouses and open-air vegetables. It is mainly used in the period of vigorous vegetable growth, such as the fruit-filling period of vegetables, the picking of fruits and vegetables, and the cabbage filling period. Since fertigation is effective, general fertilization can be effective for two days after fertilization. Therefore, it has been adopted by many vegetable farmers in recent years.

The purpose of fertilization is not only for the high yield of crops, but also to pay attention to the comprehensive benefits, to grasp the technical essentials of fertigation. First, the type of fertiliser fertilizer should be selected correctly. Only water-soluble fertilizers can be applied with water. Urea, ammonia, ammonium sulfate and ammonium nitrate are commonly used for nitrogenous fertilizers; potassium chloride and potassium sulfate are commonly used for potash fertilizers, and potassium nitrate can also be used. Phosphorus fertilizers, even if they are water-soluble ammonium dihydrogen phosphate and diammonium phosphate, are not suitable for flushing. The reason is that the phosphate fertilizer has poor mobility after being dissolved, and it is easily fixed and cannot infiltrate into the root layer with water. Therefore, it is best to apply phosphate fertilizer by layering it into the soil in order to increase its utilization. The nutrient amount of a single fertilization must be regulated. In the high-yielding cultivation of vegetables, the amount of pure nitrogen should be controlled at 2 to 4 kg per mu, and especially nitrated nitrogen should be controlled at 2 to 3 kg per mu, with a limited number of times. The amount of potassium (potassium oxide) is generally 2 to 4 kg per mu. Otherwise, the waste and loss of nutrients will be large, which will not only reduce the utilization of fertilizers, but also cause pollution to water quality.

In controlling the amount of irrigation water, flood irrigation should be prevented during flood irrigation. When canal irrigation, the depth of the ditch should be adapted to the amount of water to prevent nutrients dissolved in the water from being lost.

In addition, granular compound fertilizers, solid organic fertilizers, microbial preparations or fertilizers are not suitable for flushing.
