Stingray nesting

The stingray, also known as the crucian carp, the yellow crucian carp, and the oyster, is an important economic fish in the freshwater aquaculture in China. Stingray is delicate in meat, rich in nutrition, and delicious in taste. In recent years, market demand has continued to grow rapidly. Due to the limited production of natural waters and ponds, it is difficult to meet the growing market demand, resulting in long-term market prices for stingrays. In the pond, the investment of stingrays is low, the yield is high, and the breeding prospects are generally optimistic.

Fish pond conditions

The pond that raises the stingray should choose the water source condition well, does not have any pollution water body. The shape of the fish pond is rectangular, with an area of 3 to 10 acres, and a depth of 1.5 to 2 meters is ideal. Ponds should have anti-escape facilities. Ingress and egress should be secured. The pH of the pool water is between 7 and 8.5, and the dissolved oxygen is kept above 4 mg/l. The pond is rich in natural food resources, such as plankton, leeches, small fish and shrimp, and aquatic insects.

Set density

Breeding fish ponds, adult fish ponds, broodstock ponds, and river crab pools of other fish species can raise stingrays. There should be a large amount of small wild fish and shrimps in the ponds as feed for stingrays. From late April to early May, stocks of 4,500 to 9,000 stingray species of 3 to 5 grams per hectare will be stocked. Ponds should not be reared with other ferocious fish to avoid predation of stingray fingerlings; 750 to 3,000 stingrays of 15 to 20 grams per hectare can be grown, yielding 75 to 300 kilograms of stingray per hectare. In addition, nesting of stingrays can also significantly reduce the incidence of head lice in other fish and reduce the amount of medication used. The ponds that raise the stingrays should adopt leeks, scorpions, grasshoppers, and grass carp as main breeding objects. However, it is not appropriate to use squid or squid as a polyculture object because they are basically the same in their feeding habits and are likely to have adverse effects, and they should not be ferocious with squid. Carnivorous fish collectively raised.

Custody management

In addition to routine management of pond fish rearing, pond rearing and management for raising yellow sturgeon should pay special attention to water quality management and maintain the dissolved oxygen of the water body at 4 mg/l or more. Add water frequently, especially during July and September. During the hot season, water is usually added every 2 to 3 days. Each time the water is added to a depth of not less than 15 cm, the aerator is activated for 2 to 3 hours every day to ensure adequate dissolved oxygen and prevent the fish from floating. If the wheel catching technology can be implemented and the ponds are kept at an appropriate level, the breeding effect will be better.

Nest a pond of stingray, and when it is used for disease prevention and control of its main species, care should be taken not to affect the normal growth of the stingray. Since stingrays are fish without scales, drugs are easier to immerse directly into the body from the skin, so when using drugs, it is necessary to strictly control the dosage to prevent acute and chronic poisoning and death. Stingrays are sensitive to malachite green, copper sulfate, mercurous nitrate, potassium permanganate, and trichlorfon, and must be carefully handled. In addition, when the stingray pond is stocked, it is best not to fish when the stingray does not grow to a commercial size of about 100 grams, because stingrays are easier to hook.

Kong Lingjie, a senior engineer of Heilongjiang Aquatic Technology Extension Station, made the following suggestions to the farmers:

First, keep the water body with high dissolved oxygen. The stingray has a high requirement for water-soluble oxygen in the pool. Therefore, the polyculture requires fresh water and adequate dissolved oxygen. During the growing season, fresh water must be added at appropriate times. During the high-temperature season, it is necessary to constantly change the water, and it is better to keep microfluidic water.

Second, maintain a reasonable stocking density and stocking specifications. According to the water body diet biomass, the ratio of polyculture and the stocking specifications are determined scientifically and reasonably. If the density is too large and the specifications are too small, it will not meet the market specifications at the end of the year.

Third, the polyculture of stingrays in fish ponds is no longer suitable for the polyculture of other carnivorous fish. The culture ponds of freshwater giant shrimp and crayfish should not be mixed with stingrays.

Fourth, in the breeding process, if the size of the stingray is found to be too small, it indicates that the natural food in the fish pond is insufficient in biomass, and small fish, shrimp, summer fish or artificially prepared special yellow sturgeon bait may be added. Stingrays have nocturnal habits, and feeding should be mainly night-time.

Fifth, the crab pool can also be mixed stingray. Because crabs and stingrays are ecologically located in the same water layer location, it is easy to cause ecological position competition between the two. Therefore, there must be enough natural food organisms in crab ponds, otherwise the feeding effect of yellow catfish will be affected.
