Straw feed has good fermentation efficiency

Straw, especially from wheat and rice, is tough, fibrous, and difficult for animals to digest. Freshly harvested or dry straw has high cellulose content but low protein and soluble sugar levels, making it unpalatable and nutritionally inadequate for livestock such as cattle and sheep. This can lead to poor feed intake and reduced productivity. To improve its quality, straw fermentation is an effective method. By adding microbial inoculants like the Kinpo straw fermenting agent, these straws can be transformed into soft, moist, and aromatic feed that animals enjoy. The process of fermenting straw using the golden bait straw starter involves several key steps: 1. **Preparation of Straw**: The straw should be cut into small pieces or strands. For cows, horses, and quail, it should be chopped into 1–2 cm lengths. Sheep and deer require smaller pieces, around 1 cm. For pigs, chickens, ducks, geese, and rabbits, the straw should be crushed to a finer texture. 2. **Mixing the Ingredients**: Use 1 kg of the golden bait straw fermenting agent per 500 pounds of straw. Dissolve the starter in warm water (30–35°C) and mix thoroughly. In summer, cold water can also be used. Then combine this with the prepared straw material. The moisture level should be around 60–70%. To check if it's right, squeeze a handful of the mixture—if no water drips from your fingers, it's properly moistened. The straw-to-water ratio is roughly 1:1.5. 3. **Piling the Materials**: Spread the mixed straw into a pile about 40–50 cm high. Insert a thermometer and cover it with a heat-insulating and moisture-retaining material to begin fermentation. 4. **Temperature Control**: Fermentation typically takes 6–8 hours in summer and 16–24 hours in winter, provided the temperature stays above 15°C. If the room is colder, try to raise the temperature to at least 15°C. Using insulation on the pile will speed up the process. 5. **Turning the Pile**: When the temperature reaches 40°C, turn the pile once. Be careful not to let it exceed 45°C, as this could cause over-fermentation. It’s best to turn the pile 1–2 times during the entire process. When the straw turns yellow and emits a pleasant aroma, fermentation is complete. Remove the cover, allow it to cool, and prevent secondary fermentation by ensuring it doesn’t reheat. Using the Jinbao straw fermentor not only enhances the nutritional value of the feed but also reduces farming costs and promotes sustainable resource use. This method is both practical and beneficial, making it a promising solution for farmers looking to improve animal nutrition and efficiency.
