Use carbendazim farmer attention

Carbendazim is a widely used fungicide known for its broad-spectrum activity, strong efficacy, and long-lasting effects. It's considered an excellent choice for controlling fungal infections in mushroom cultivation. However, many farmers face challenges due to insufficient knowledge on how to properly apply it. To address this issue, the author recently spoke with Xie Yuwei, a renowned mushroom cultivation expert from Zhouying Township, Shenqiu County, who shared four key points regarding the safe and effective use of carbendazim. First, when purchasing carbendazim, it's important to choose high-quality products. The most common forms available on the market are 50% wettable powder and 40% suspension. Always check the production date—ideally within the last year. If the product has been stored for too long, consider increasing the dosage slightly to maintain its effectiveness. Second, carbendazim isn't very effective against Mucor and Rhizopus. To improve control, it's advisable to raise the pH of the growing medium, which can help suppress the growth of these fungi. Since carbendazim is heat-resistant, using high-temperature sterilization during the fermentation process can also be beneficial. However, certain mushrooms like Tremella, fungus, and Hericium are highly sensitive to carbendazim, so care must be taken to avoid direct exposure. Third, when applying carbendazim, the concentration should be carefully controlled. Typically, a 0.1% solution based on the dry weight of the substrate is sufficient to inhibit bacterial growth. Increasing the concentration unnecessarily not only raises costs but can also harm the mycelium, leading to contamination of the fruiting bodies. When mixing, dissolve the chemical thoroughly in water before evenly incorporating it into the substrate to prevent uneven distribution and spot contamination. Fourth, carbendazim degrades quickly in alkaline conditions. Therefore, it should never be mixed with lime or used in combination with it. Prolonged use of carbendazim can lead to resistance, so it's recommended to rotate with other fungicides to maintain long-term effectiveness. By following these guidelines, farmers can maximize the benefits of carbendazim while minimizing risks and ensuring successful mushroom cultivation.
