Use carbendazim farmer attention

Carbendazim is a widely used fungicide known for its broad-spectrum activity, strong efficacy, and long-lasting effects. It is considered an excellent choice for controlling fungal infections in various agricultural settings. However, many farmers face challenges due to insufficient knowledge on how to properly apply the chemical. To address this, I recently had the opportunity to speak with Xie Yuwei, a renowned mushroom cultivation expert from Zhouying Township, Shenqiu County. He shared four key points about the proper use of carbendazim that every grower should be aware of. First, when purchasing carbendazim, it's important to choose high-quality products. The most commonly available forms are 50% wettable powder and 40% suspension. Always check the production date—ideally, the product should not be more than one year old. If the shelf life has expired, consider increasing the dosage slightly, but always follow manufacturer guidelines to avoid overuse. Second, carbendazim is not very effective against certain fungi like Mucor and Rhizopus. To improve control, it’s recommended to raise the pH of the growing medium. Additionally, because carbendazim is heat-resistant, it's best to use high-temperature sterilization during the fermentation process to eliminate mold. Some mushrooms, such as Tremella, fungus, and Hericium, are particularly sensitive to carbendazim, so care must be taken to avoid their exposure. Third, when applying carbendazim, the concentration must be carefully controlled. A typical recommendation is to use 0.1% of the dry weight of the material when using 50% wettable powder. Increasing the concentration unnecessarily can raise costs and may even harm the mycelium, leading to contamination of the fruiting bodies. When mixing, dissolve the chemical thoroughly in water before evenly incorporating it into the substrate to prevent uneven distribution and spot contamination. Lastly, carbendazim is unstable in alkaline conditions, so it should never be mixed with lime or used together in the same solution. Prolonged use of carbendazim can also lead to resistance, so it's advisable to rotate with other fungicides to maintain effectiveness. Proper application and rotation practices can help maximize the benefits of carbendazim while minimizing risks.
