Diagnosis and Treatment of Common Diseases of Tractor Brake

One, Brake Failure If the friction plate is severely damaged or has worn down, the brake clearance will increase, which can reduce braking efficiency. To address this, adjust the thickness of the adjustment gasket on the brake cover to meet the required clearance specifications. If mud or oil gets inside the brake mechanism, it can lower the friction coefficient and cause braking issues. In such cases, replace the oil seal and rubber seal, then clean all brake components with gasoline and allow them to dry before reinstallation. If the brake fails due to a faulty return spring or a jammed steel ball, disassemble the brake system. Replace the return spring and use fine emery cloth to smooth the brake platen groove and ball. Clean the surfaces thoroughly and reinstall the parts properly. If the free travel of the brake pedal is too large, leading to improper braking, release the interlocking piece and adjust the free travel of both left and right brake pedals according to the manufacturer's guidelines before reassembling and using the system again. Second, Brake Overheating If the brake pedal clearance is too small, the tractor may experience unintended braking while in motion, causing the brakes to overheat. Adjust the free travel of the brake pedal so that both left and right pedals have a free travel of approximately 90–120 mm. If excessive friction between the splined hole and spline shaft causes overheating, repair the splines so that the friction plate can move freely along the shaft. If the pressure plate return spring fails, the brake may remain partially engaged, causing continuous friction and heat. Replace the faulty return spring. If a steel ball becomes stuck in the groove, clean the ball and groove with gasoline, polish them with fine emery cloth, apply a small amount of grease to the groove, and reinstall the component for proper function. Third, Tractor Drifting If the left and right brake pedals have unequal free travel, readjust them so they are balanced. If one side of the brake slips, identify the cause—this could be due to dirty components or worn seals. Clean the brake parts or replace the oil and rubber seals before reuse. If the tractor tends to drift during field operations, it may be due to severe wear on the friction linings on one side. In such cases, replace the worn friction linings to restore proper braking performance. By regularly inspecting and maintaining the braking system, you can ensure safe and efficient operation of your tractor. Always follow the manufacturer’s instructions and use quality replacement parts when necessary.
