Skillful fertilization, three methods for increasing yield and sweetening watermelon

Watermelon cultivation requires a combination of effective fertilization techniques to enhance yield and sweetness. Here are three proven methods that can significantly improve the quality and productivity of watermelons. First, the application of a bio-sweetening agent is an innovative approach that combines essential nutrients such as calcium, boron, copper, zinc, manganese, and cobalt with nitrogen, phosphorus, and magnesium. This biological sweetening solution helps increase fruit set by over 10%, boost yield by more than 15%, and raise sugar content by 0.8 to 1.5 degrees. The product can be applied in several ways: foliar spray (diluted 500–800 times), root irrigation (500–1000 times), or dry application (10–20 times). It also works well with other pesticides, improving their adhesion and effectiveness. Second, using microbial fertilizers is another effective strategy. Applying 1–2 kilograms of golden treasure microbial fungus per acre can help prevent seedling death, enhance the absorption of trace elements, and improve the efficiency of organic and chemical fertilizers. This promotes better photosynthesis and increases sugar synthesis, ultimately leading to sweeter watermelons. Third, applying boron fertilizer is crucial for watermelon growth. Boron plays a vital role in plant development, and its deficiency can lead to lower yields, reduced sugar content, and issues like poor flowering or bud drop. Studies show that applying boron fertilizer can increase the number of flowers, speed up blooming by 3 days, and raise yield by 11.7% while boosting sweetness by 0.7 degrees. Boron can be used as a base fertilizer during soil preparation, with 0.5–1 kg of borax per acre, or 3.5–7 kg of boron-magnesium fertilizer, mixed with nitrogen and phosphorus. It should not be applied in furrows to avoid toxic effects from high local concentrations. Additionally, foliar spraying with a 0.1–0.2% borax solution can provide further benefits. By combining these techniques, farmers can achieve higher yields, improved fruit quality, and greater sweetness in their watermelon crops.
