Morphological Features:
This plant is a shrub-like herb with fleshy stems. The leaves are opposite, long and oval, with a deep green color. The midrib and lateral veins are yellow, creating a striking contrast that makes it visually appealing. The inflorescence is terminal, with golden-yellow sepals, and it can bloom for up to two months.
Growing Habits:
It thrives in warm and humid conditions, and it is shade-tolerant, preferring indirect light rather than direct sunlight. It is sensitive to extreme temperatures—above 35°C or below 6°C can damage the leaves. It requires well-drained, fertile soil and does not like excessive moisture.
There are different varieties of single-flower types, such as Jinmai single flower and Tabby single flower.
Golden Pulse Single Flower
Also known as Golden Vein Jade Bed or Jinmai Denia, this is a perennial evergreen herb belonging to the Acanthaceae family. It typically grows to a height of 25–30 cm. The leaves are opposite, oblong, measuring about 10–12 cm in length and 5–8 cm in width. They are entire but slightly inward-curving, with an acute tip and a wedge-shaped base. The leaves are dark green with yellowish or yellow veins. The flowers appear as terminal spikes, opening gradually from the bottom up. They are yellow in color and bloom during summer and autumn, lasting for several weeks.
The Jinmai single flower originates from the tropical regions of Mexico and Brazil. It prefers a warm and moist environment, enjoys bright light, but should be protected from direct sun. The ideal growing temperature is between 20–28°C, and it should be kept above 10°C during winter.
Garden Uses:
The leaves of the Jinmai single flower have a striking appearance, with dark green, glossy surfaces and neat yellow veins. Its golden flower spikes add to its ornamental value. The combination of foliage and flowers creates a unique visual effect, making it highly decorative. It is often used in potted plants for indoor spaces such as halls, reception areas, and exhibition rooms. In southern regions, it is planted in flower beds, walkways, and alongside other flowering plants to enhance garden aesthetics. Its versatility and beauty make it a popular choice among gardeners and landscape designers.
