Farmyard feed should pay attention to what issues?

(1) Choosing the right raw materials is essential for a balanced and effective pig feed. It's recommended to use more than six different types of ingredients to ensure nutritional complementarity. The selected materials should be palatable, locally available, and cost-effective. The quantity of each ingredient should match the digestive capacity of the pigs. If the amount is too large, it may overload the digestive system and reduce nutrient absorption. On the other hand, if the amount is too small, even though the nutritional needs are met, the pigs may still feel hungry, leading to restlessness and poor growth performance. (2) Proper processing of key ingredients like corn, soybeans, rice, and seeds is important. These should be ground to an appropriate size to enhance digestibility. Soybeans and cottonseed meal need to be cooked to neutralize trypsin inhibitors and remove toxic substances such as gossypol. Similarly, rapeseed meal should be treated to eliminate erucic acid, which can be harmful to pigs. Such processing steps improve the overall quality and safety of the feed. (3) Uniform mixing is crucial to ensure that all ingredients are well combined. It's best to weigh each component accurately before mixing. Start by blending the main ingredients such as corn, bran, and oilcakes, then gradually add the smaller or more delicate components in even proportions. This helps prevent uneven distribution and ensures that every pig receives a balanced diet. (4) Proper storage is equally important for maintaining feed quality. Farm-made feed should be used as soon as possible, following the "first in, first out" principle. Storing feed for too long can lead to spoilage, especially in hot and humid conditions. In summer, it’s advisable to store feed for no more than 20 days. During winter, the storage period can be slightly extended. When storing, make sure the area is well-ventilated, dry, and protected from sunlight. Also, take measures to prevent rodent infestations and contamination, ensuring the feed remains safe and nutritious for the pigs.
