When applying pesticides, it's important to choose fast-acting and systemic options. For instance, insecticides like dicamba and deltamethrin can kill pests within 1 to 2 hours after application. Even if light rain occurs shortly after, their effectiveness remains largely unaffected. Systemic pesticides, such as carbendazim, are absorbed through the plant’s roots, stems, and leaves, then transported throughout the plant over time, providing long-lasting protection. Within 2 to 3 hours of application, more than 60% of the active ingredients are taken up by the crop, reducing the risk of wash-off due to rain.
To improve adhesion, you can add a small amount of an adhesive agent, such as dish soap or liquid detergent, to the pesticide mixture. Additionally, mixing in a small quantity of diesel or kerosene emulsions can enhance the pesticide's ability to cling to pests, increasing its effectiveness.
It's also crucial to monitor weather conditions before and after spraying. Try to apply the pesticide just before or during a dry period, avoiding times when rain is expected. Ideally, there should be no rain for at least 8 hours after application, as this ensures the pesticide has enough time to work properly. If rain does occur, make sure to spray on the drier side of the area to maximize coverage and minimize dilution. By planning carefully and using the right products, you can significantly improve the success of your pest control efforts.
