Grass pulp feeding fish "Four Qiao"

Using a pulverizer to process aquatic plants like water hyacinths and water lettuce into pulp makes an excellent feed for raising fry and rearing adult fish. This method not only significantly increases the utilization of forage grass but also promotes the growth of plankton, enhancing the overall productivity of the fish farm. According to experiments, 10-15 kilograms of straw pulp is equivalent in nutritional value to 1 kilogram of soybeans. For every 1,000 kilograms of grass pulp produced, about 150-200 kilograms of straw are used. Additionally, 30-50 kilograms of straw pulp can yield 1 kilogram of alfalfa or squid spring pieces. To successfully implement this method, there are four key strategies to follow. First, all aquatic plants should be thoroughly washed with clean water and disinfected using a 3%-4% salt solution before processing. When feeding fish, it’s important to distribute the feed multiple times throughout the day, ensuring the right balance between grass and water. The grass should be finely ground to increase the suspension time of the particles in the water, giving fish more opportunities to consume the feed. If the mixture becomes too thick, it may settle at the bottom, leading to poor water quality. Regular maintenance of the pulping machine, including keeping the blade sharp and adjusting the speed, ensures consistent pulp quality and better use of fresh grass. Second, the amount of straw fed should be adjusted based on the type, quantity, and water conditions of the pond. It's recommended to feed 50-70 kilograms of straw pulp per mu of water daily when raising fish. For seedlings, applying 100-150 kilograms of straw as base fertilizer per acre helps cultivate natural food sources in the water. Once the fish are in the pond, feed 50-100 kilograms per mu per day, or 120-1,000 fry per day, with 150 kg fed every 2-3 days over a period of 15-20 days. To maximize food intake, spray the entire pond evenly, 8-9 hours a day, with additional 2-3 hours of spraying to boost feeding chances and improve feed efficiency. Third, managing water quality is crucial. Overfeeding grass pulp can lead to pollution, so regular water changes are necessary to maintain oxygen levels and water clarity. Adding lime slurry during the rearing period helps disinfect the water and neutralize acidic byproducts from decomposing straw. This supports the formation of bacterial flocs and enhances plankton growth, which in turn boosts fish production. Lastly, when raising fingerlings or adult fish, avoid feeding straw alone. Instead, mix it with concentrated feed in a ratio of 5-8:1 for better results. If using water peanuts, which contain saponin toxins, add 2%-5% salt to the pulp to neutralize the toxin. Always feed the pulp soon after preparation to prevent contamination, which could harm the fish and reduce feed quality. By following these methods, fish farming with grass pulp can become both efficient and sustainable.
