Pig Farming and Deworming Program

Pig Farming and Deworming Program The primary goal of health care and deworming programs on pig farms is to eliminate harmful microorganisms, reduce pathogen load, and maintain the overall health of the herd. When selecting drugs for these programs, three main categories are considered: respiratory tract treatments, gastrointestinal tract treatments, and blood protozoa control. For respiratory tract issues, common medications include Fluoromethol (Ginkflucon), Tylosin (Ginkcon), Lincomycin, Doxycycline, Sulfamethoxazole (Bismuth), Ceftiofur, and Amoxicillin. These drugs help prevent and manage respiratory diseases that often occur in crowded or poorly ventilated conditions. When it comes to the gastrointestinal tract, effective options include Enrofloxacin, Spectinomycin (Kinligo), Sulfamethoxazole, Colistin (Kim Soo), and Beta Prequinone (Deuterol). These are used to treat digestive infections and improve gut health. For blood protozoa, such as those causing swine fever or other parasitic infections, Tetracyclines, Sulfonamides (like Auricular Acetate or Red Detoxification Plus One), and Triazophos are commonly used. Drug compatibility is an important factor. A well-rounded program typically includes a combination of respiratory, gastrointestinal, and protozoal treatments, along with antiparasitic agents and immune boosters like "Proud Era" or "Elimination of Red Five Plus One." This helps ensure comprehensive protection and reduces the risk of drug resistance. Seasonal focus varies depending on the time of year. In winter and spring, the emphasis is on respiratory and digestive tract health, while during summer and autumn, the priority shifts toward the digestive system and blood protozoa. Health Care Programs 1. **Health Care Drug Groups** - Niuvin or Gold Fluoride + Doxycycline + Astragalus Polysaccharide + Electrolyte Multivitamin - Zhiyuan Net + Amoxicillin + Astragalus Polysaccharide + Electrolyte Multivitamin - Sulfacetamide (Import) + Synergist + Oxytetracycline + Astragalus Polysaccharide + Electrolyte Multivitamin + Baking Soda - Gold Ligao + Astragalus Polysaccharide + Harbin Pharmaceuticals - Jin Kangtai + Astragalus Polysaccharide + Electrolyte Multivitamin + Baking Soda - Philharmonic New + Fluthione + Astragalus Polysaccharide + Electrolyte Multivitamin 2. **Timing of Medication** Each group should be used continuously for 6 months, followed by a different formula. After 6 months, another formula is introduced. Typically, 4–5 formulas make up a cycle. This approach ensures that each major medication has a full cycle every two years, reducing the development of resistant strains and maintaining drug sensitivity. 3. **Health Care Schedule** - Breeding pigs: One health care session per month, lasting 7 days; or two sessions per month, each lasting 5 days. - Nursery pigs: After weaning, administer pulsed medications. Provide 5–7 days of health care, then a 5–7 day withdrawal period. Repeat 2–3 times per batch. - Growing pigs: Administer 5–7 days of health care after moving to a new group, followed by monthly maintenance for 5–7 days. Deworming Programs There are two main methods of deworming: in vivo (internal) and in vitro (external). These include intramuscular injections, oral administration, and environmental or body surface sprays. 1. **In Vivo Deworming** - **Drug Selection**: Ivermectin + Fenbendazole (Worm Black) powder, or injectable products like Ivermectin and Doramectin. - **Application**: - Breeding herds: Once per quarter, use Worm Black at 0.75–1‰ concentration for 5–7 days. Avoid reconstituting with other injections. - Commercial pigs: If infection pressure is high, deworm twice—at 20–30 kg and 50–60 kg—using 0.5–0.75% Worm Black for 5–7 days. For lower pressure, deworm once at 30–40 kg. 2. **In Vitro Deworming** - **Drug Selection**: Trichlorfon, Pyrethrins (Deuterium), and other modern insecticides. - **Procedure**: Spray a 1% Trichlorfon solution once a month for 4 consecutive days from April to September. Focus on floors, walls, pig pens, aisles, and equipment. This should be done thoroughly, similar to disinfection. Other sprays can be used in the same manner. 3. **Important Notes** - Most deworming agents can be combined with health care drugs, but they should not be used simultaneously with Sulfonamides or Lincomycins. - When using Trichlorfon externally, avoid contact with basic drugs. Trichlorfon reacts with Dichlorvos, increasing toxicity by more than seven times. Always follow safety protocols when handling chemicals. By following this structured and seasonal approach, farmers can significantly improve pig health, reduce disease outbreaks, and enhance productivity.
