Occurrence and Prevention of Bitter Cucumber

In recent years, the problem of cucumber bitterness has become more and more serious, which seriously restricts the production and development of cucumber. During production, both open and protected areas occurred, and the occurrence rate of bitter melons in protected areas was higher than that of exposed lands. The peak period was mainly concentrated on the root melons of the early flowering stage and the melons on the late stage of the late flowering stage. Bitterness occurs mostly near the cucurbits, and the apex is rarely seen.

Causes of excessive nitrogen fertilizer application: When nitrogen fertilizer is used excessively, the plants are long and the seats are not neat, and the melons on the side branches and weak branches tend to have bitter taste. In the case of low-temperature and low-light weather, during the growth of the melon strips, in the event of low temperature and low sunshine, especially on cloudy days, the roots or activities of the cucumbers are impaired, and the absorbed water and nutrients are less. The melon strips grow slowly and often accumulate in the roots and the lower melons. The bitterness of bitterness leads to melon bitterness. Prolonged drought and lack of water: greenhouse cucumbers from the colonization to root melon harvest, generally takes 25 to 30 days. Before the roots are harvested, water control measures are often used to promote roots. If the water control is too long, it will cause bitter taste.

Precautionary measures include the use of varieties that are not susceptible to bitterness, such as the Jinza and Jinchun series, and the strengthening of temperature management. The initial temperature of the seedling stage and the fruiting nectar should be controlled at 13°C or higher, and the postharvest period should be controlled below 32°C. Moisture loss, water control root melon should be appropriate, not excessive water control; reasonable supply of various mineral elements, nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium ratio in the fertilization master 5:2:6, to avoid too much or too little nitrogen; late use of leaf surface Spray fertilizer to ensure that plants grow robustly.
