US invented wireless device to monitor esophageal reflux
Release date: 2007-06-26 In a groundbreaking development, researchers in the United States have introduced a wireless device designed to monitor esophageal reflux. This innovation was unveiled at the Digestive Diseases Week Conference in Washington, D.C., in May 2007. The technology, developed by scientists from the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center and engineers from Texas, is known as Radio Frequency Incremental Technology (RFID). It uses radio frequency signals to detect acid and non-acid reflux in the esophagus. The RFID chip is placed on the neck and can be easily removed by a physician. Measuring about two square centimeters, the device continuously monitors the esophagus for acidic and non-acidic signals, transmitting the data wirelessly to a receiver located around the neck. Initial tests conducted in simulated environments have shown that the signals can effectively pass through human tissue, confirming the system's potential for real-world use. The receivers are capable of detecting stomach acid, gas, and water, providing doctors with crucial information about what the patient is experiencing. This helps determine if these substances are causing symptoms such as heartburn, and whether they are linked to specific activities like eating or lying down. The device offers a more accurate and continuous method of monitoring compared to traditional techniques. Currently, the system is undergoing extensive testing, including animal models, with plans to eventually move to human trials. Researchers are also working on developing a portable device similar to a personal digital assistant (PDA), which patients can carry with them. This device would allow users to store and transfer data to a computer for further analysis, making it easier for doctors to interpret results and provide better care. This new technology represents a significant step forward in the diagnosis and management of gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), offering a more convenient and effective solution for both patients and healthcare providers. ——Shanghai Medical Device Network sauna dome, infrared sauna dome, clearlight sauna dome Guangzhou Fuerle Health Technology Co., Ltd , https://www.fuerlegroup.com
